Stag Do
Apart from the speech, the other main duty of the best man is to organise the stag do. There are so many options here that we will just list a few general tips that were learnt through experience (both good and bad).
- Start planning early. Talk to the groom about what he would like to do, and where he would like to do it a few months in advance.
- It is best to have the stag do a few weeks before the wedding, to allow any scars to heal, hair to grow back and for the hangover to reside.
- Let everyone who is invited know as soon as possible so that no other plans are made for that date and time can be booked off work.
- Your responsibilities can be summarised as transport (flights, minibus, public transport), accommodation and a rough itinerary of what to do. When booking accommodation it is a good idea to inform them that you are a stag party. Some places won’t accept stag dos, and you don’t want to discover that when you arrive!
- Golden tip - get people’s money off them beforehand. No money, no place. Sounds harsh, but it is fair and it will save you from being left with the bill should someone pull out at the last minute.
- If the plan is to visit a new city in the UK for a couple of nights on the tiles then we recommend you get the appropriate Itchy Guide. These pocket-sized books list all the best pubs, bars, clubs and restaurants along with a map so at less you can find your way home.
- Or finally, you could just leave it all to one of the many companies that specialise in organising stag dos such as Last Night of Freedom
some books to help you out..
